Outliers

In the included reading-group interview, Gladwell says the book grew from frustration with explanations that attributed successful careers chiefly to intelligence or ambition. He describes looking toward culture, community, family and generation for a fuller account. This is the author’s stated motivation, not an independently verified account of how the book was produced.

Blink

In the introduction, Gladwell explains his choice to examine fleeting moments of judgment rather than begin with broad social themes. He presents the book as an investigation of the origins of first impressions and the possibility of changing how they are formed, which accounts for its movement among many small, concrete encounters.
